- The following chart follows the flow of the disease through its various stages displaying both average time frames and common symptoms.
- As can be seen, there are three main stages as well as a latent stage. The latent stage is the phase of the disease where no symptoms show but the person remains infected.
- At any time throughout the process, the disease can be discovered with testing.
- At any time throughout the process, the disease is curable with proper treatment; however, damage done during the tertiary stage may cause life-long health problems.
